I have some shows on cassette that I'd like to master to digital form. I wondered if I can play them into the 990 with my Nakamichi deck, and take the optical or digital output into my Mac to save the digital files, then master to CD. Alternatively, would the USB port serve the transfer function? Thanks.

Or do I have to buy a separate A>D converter to do this?

I have a Macbook Pro, which has a combo input -- both analog L/R and mini-optical input. So I could run straight into the Mac of course. I was just thinking that the A>D converter in the 990 might be a higher quality than what's built in to the Mac.

That said, it would no doubt be easier to just run straight in to the Mac and record in GarageBand, saving at its highest quality.
