I have a pair of Dahlquist DQ20's and after reading the manual for the new Outlaw speakers, It seems as though I can bi-amp the speakers fairly easily by just getting some speaker wire and two Y connectors... one for each speaker.

I happen to have two Aragon 8008 amps @ 200 amps per channel. My question is this - Will 400 watts per channel be too much for these speakers? I don't have the manual. Also, will I really hear a difference?

Any other thoughts and feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you - Aaron

What you are contemplating is called "passive" bi-amping, since the crossovers remain inside the speaker. ("Active" bi-amping involves putting crossovers between the pre-amp and amp, then removing crossovers from the speaker - not something that the average person can do.)

In general, passive bi-amping is going to be comparable to using a single amplifier with the same output as the two amps being used to bi-amp (in this case, using a single 400W amp per speaker). I couldn't find much info on the DQ 20's, so I dont't know if going from 200W to 400W would be likely to make any difference. My suspicion is that the benefits would be slim at best. Since you have the amps, all it would cost you to test is a little speaker wire and a couple Y splitters, but I don't know that it'll do much.

I'm bi-amping now. I was in much the same situation and came across enough amps to be able to do this. I found in my case an improvement in sound. This could be any number of reasons, more power going to each side of the speaker causing them to be louder, etc. If you have the amps try it and listen to see if it's worth it. Jim

Could someone tell me what anyone thinks the benefit of passive biamping is supposed to be, beyond possibly three decibels more acoustic output (= sounding "a little louder")?
