Is there a way to prevent the 990 from locking onto a Dolby Digital signal. The 990 makes a snaping noise when it changes from one Dolby Digital cable channel to the next, however, it does not do this when changing between non DD channels which use Pro Logic II. Using Pro Logic II could prevent this annoying snap, is there anyway to make it happen or am I stuck with the snapping.

The 990 must analyse and lock on to any incoming signal (it has to know what you are getting). The reason you are not hearing a snap when changing between non DD channels is that the cable box isn't interrupting the audio bitstream.

Can you set the cable box to output PCM vs. Dolby Digital. I was having a similair problem and it turned out to be a ground loop issue between my two amps. Since I've gone to one amp, the problem is gone with the digital popping. Good luck !!

2DJ,
I am also having the popping problem. Just out of curiosity, are you using balanced or unbalanced cables? I only get the pop out of my speakers which are hooked up balanced.

I'm using the balanced cables for all speakers.

Replace the balanced cables with un-balanced and the snaping noise will go away. This is a problem between the 990 and some amps including the Outlaw 7500 and 7700. I wish Outlaw would have told us that before we wasted money on balanced cables.

I have unbalanced cables, and I get the pop all the time.

For what it's worth, I've always gotten the pop, no matter what preamp I've used.

Balanced cables make it worse and un-tolerable.
