Becuase Voom went belly up ( I am still in mourning) I decided to go with Dish Network. I noticed that most of my channels are only in 2.1(?) now instead of the 5.1 I enjoyed with Voom. Is there a setting I am missing or something? My receiver is set the same. It used to process the Voom channels very nicely and now it seems all my sound is in the front channels.

If Dish is anything like my cable provider, many channels only come through in Dolby 2.0 - I've even had the local affiliate (or cable company, not sure who's to blame) "downmix" Dolby 5.1 to Dolby 2.0 by simply stripping the left and right channels out, leaving out the center channel (and all of the dialog). Try enabling Pro Logic IIx with those Dolby 2.0 sources and see how that works for you.

That is my default setting - Auto with PLIIx- the same as it was with Voom. ( My menu is similar to 990)Maybe I should switch the Auto part?

Did you investigate DirecTV as well? I'm just curious why you chose Dish Network. I have a personal history and strong dislike of Dish, which is why I ask. To put it politely, their customer service is extremely sub-par.

Anyway, not having a high def display, I've not had the opportunity to compare any of the HD offerings of either provider. However, are you getting any multi-channel audio? It could be a setting in your Dish box.

Maybe, although I cringe at the thought of your struggle if you do, you should call their tech support and find out if they even broadcast their HD with multi-channel audio or not.

Dish Tv was actually my better half's idea and I am not too thrilled. I may just bite the bullet and get Direct TV when I move but I do love that Dish offers some Voom channels. Man do I miss Voom! frown
