In the past week or so we have received a number of comments and questions about the operation of the bass management system in the Model 990. To clear the air once again, we ask that you note the following:

§ Though many options are available, the overwhelming majority of Model 990 owners use a reasonably standard set of configuration options (Small/Sub:On) that provide the optimal routing of bass signals to today’s typical satellite/sub type speaker systems. The discussions in the Saloon are of little or no impact to most users.
§ When the more extensive options available with “Large” speakers are used, the desired settings and performance often becomes as much a matter of personal preference as anything else. Indeed, we have received a number of comments that request conflicting methods of operation. That tells us, unfortunately, that it is impossible to please every user. Sometimes it isn’t a matter of “right” or “wrong”, but rather that the way you may want the settings to work differs from the method available or how someone else wants to see them operate (in a different and opposite manner).
§ In response to the comments in the Saloon, we are working with the Model 990 software team to develop an update to the bass management software that answers many of the items currently under discussion.
§ As we have stated previously, this software is very complex, and any modification requires testing to not only assure that the desired results were achieved, but also to make certain that no other area of the product’s operation was affected. For this reason, as much as we would like to say when the revised software will be available, we simply cannot accurately answer the question at this time. Similarly, since the software is still in development and testing, we cannot provide any details at this time on the way it will operate, since the options may change as testing proceeds and the impact of any changes are overall system functionality is determined. We will post this as soon as it is finalized and the software frozen.

The Outlaws stand behind their products in a number of ways. Most importantly, we are committed to your complete satisfaction by providing a 30-day in-home audition period. Within that period you may return an Outlaw product for a full refund (shipping excluded) for any reason, including its performance or the way in which it operates.

On going, we are recognized throughout the home theater community for unparalleled support to customers via phone and e-mail. Additionally, we provide The Outlaw Saloon as a free and open area for everyone to offer their comments on our products. While we rarely interfere with the posts, we do read them all. The Saloon is a valuable resource for all.

Bringing this all full circle, since all of our current multichannel audio processors and the Model 1070 receiver are software upgradeable, it is possible for us to take the information, comments and concerns posted in the Saloon and received by our Customer Service team and, when appropriate, address them in a software update. That is what we have done with issues that slipped by the Model 1070 and Model 970 beta testers, and that is exactly what we are doing with the Model 990. All we ask is your patience while we sort this out and develop a revised software package that meets both our standards and yours.
