While watching some old tapes of Mystery Science Theater 3000, I discovered a new use for (the otherwise useless IMO) Stereo 5 mode on the 950.

Using this mode for monaural audio tracks -- and turning off the surrounds (which I can do easily because I have them separately amped) -- you get a nice soundfield across the front of the room, instead of the collapsed-to-the-center-speaker or phantom-channel-vague sound of other modes you get using DP2 or stereo modes, respectively.
