Does anyone know if the 990 is capable of dual link, or is it just single link DVI in & out. You can't tell by the connection itself as they both connect in the same manner, but dual will have additional twisted pairs in the cable providing a lower bitrate, thus increasing the effective bandwidth of the interface. My display is capable of dual, but the 990 would need to be able to support dual as well in order for a dual cable to be of benefit to me. The manual doesn't speak to the DVI as being dual or single . I have a dual cable that will work either way, but will be of no benefit if the 990 does not support dual.

I've got dual-link cables run from my cable box to my display, and it works fine, but I don't think the cable box uses more than single link. I would expect it to support dual link, but I don't have any confirmation.

Another question about the DVI switching. If I were to use component to Db15 cables for my component devices and take the db15 from my HTPC, use DVI to Db15 adapter into the 990. Then use a DVI to Db15 adapter out to my X1, would this work? It is my understanding that the switching is purely switching, no messing with the signal so it seems it would work. Right now I am using a KVM, but I would like to remove that from the loop. The down side of this configuration is of course the additional connections that could possibly degrade the signal.

Thanks,
Ed

If it were my system, I'd upgrade the video card to one that outputs component video and use the 990's component switching. There probably isn't going to be any added benefit to switching via DVI vs. via component in your case, since there are no digital video signals in your system.

But then I won't have an excuse to upgrade from my 950!!

We've been told that the 990 is a switch only, so presuming that all pins are connected, then you can switch dual link.

HOWEVER, as said elsewhere, there are NO, repeat, NO consumer sources that use the bandwidth of dual link; all consumer video sources are single link DVI-D.

The question is moot here, in so far as consumer video is concerned.
