I did think of one hitch, make sure if you DIY that the fixture base is not so cheap that the ballast hums. (Like I've heard in some garages etc)
That would mess with the whole effect!

Good idea. I will pick up a cheapie at Home Depot this week and see how it looks.

I have a friend who uses a cheapy clip on lamp fixture and an incadescent bulb (25W I think). The fluorescent sounds great for getting a 6500K color, but I have enough problem with hiss, hum, and buzzes, that I don't want to try a fluorescent with a ballast.

Has anyone found a good incadescent bulb to use color-wise?

There is a bulb by ? One of the main mauf. (maybe Philips) I'll look next time.
I beleive it is marketed with something like 'revel' on the pkg. It's in the light spectrum closer to Daylight. I really like the color of this incandansant, BUT, when I have used them they burn out (POP) extremely quickly. Very irritating (and expensive) they are not cheap.

Just got thru setting up an el cheapo Home Depot light on the back of my big screen.
My wife thinks it adds some atmosphere and it does seem to be easy on the eyes then when all the lights are out. So it is a WINNER here.
