I have two units with this issue, 950 and 1050. I bought them used this way, with the volume knob not giving the response expected, mostly going up when turning the knob either way, but if I push it in, I can get some semblance of control. I've read the old posts and decided to dig into my 1050. This is what I found- The volume control on the inner face board was loose at the crimps. I unhooked the crimps, cleaned the contacts with Caig De-Oxit and a toothbrush (gently), bent the contacts out slightly (being very careful), reassembled everything and VOILA! Back to normal. Took me about an hour and a half, mostly because the faceplate is glued to the inner panel around the display and I hunted for hidden screws and such. I didn't want to use brute force, but that's what it took. Now on to the 950... Anyone brave enough to try this can contact me for hints or help. kve777@gmail.com Kevin.
