I just hooked up my Outlaw 1050 to my whole house amp last night, via pre-amp outs. I typically listen to my Outlaw and Studio/100's at a volume of 40 for TV and 65 for movies.

When I turned on my whole house speakers, I couldn't hear anything, so I started turning up my Outlaw's volume. I had to turn it to 70 before I could start to hear anything out of the whole house speakers.

The whole house setup works fine with the CD player output. It seems like maybe the pre-amp out is a very weak signal?? Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

When I had my Model 1050 paired with Studio/60's and added a separate amp (Model 750), I found myself using lower volume settings than when I used the 1050 by itself. How do you handle volume control with the CD player run straight to the amp? Is there a volume control downstream of the amp, or do you use the CD player? I'm wondering if there's a second volume control of some sort downstream of the 1050 that's contributing to this problem.

I have a volume control pad in each room. When I set the room speaker source to Tuner, I tried turning up the room volume to max, but couldn't hear anything until I turned up the 1050 to 70.

I'm using 25' cables for my pre-amp out. Is that a problem? 1050 is in my family room. Whole house equip is in the basement.

Cable length shouldn't be a problem unless there is some severe attentuation taking place, but the multiple volume controls are going to be an operational issue no matter what. Ideally, if there's a volume control in each room, you'll want to eliminate volume control upstream of that to a great degree.

Here's one scheme. It may sound odd, but it would let you use whatever source was active at the 1050 throughout the house. First, make sure that every source you have is connected to the 1050 with stereo analog cables, even if you are using a digital cable for that source. Second, move the cables from the pre-amp output to the tape record otuput of the 1050. This will bypass all volume control at the 1050 (which will need to be adjusted to satisfy the Studio/100's) and will let you rely just on the room volume controls. If there is still a volume level problem with that arrangement, I would do a bit of testing of the cables between the 1050 and the amp to make sure something isn't wrong there.

Tape record out was the answer. It works perfectly now. Any clue what the problem is with the pre amp out, or should I just be happy I have a solution? ;-)

Something about the two volume controls in series was messing with you - I'm just not exactly sure what. It sounds like taking the 1050's volume control out of the mix appears to have squared things away though. smile
