I just noticed a link on Outlaw's home page to this: a free short stack (3 pairs of 0.5-meter PCA's) with an ICBM . Not a bad deal for anybody considering picking up an ICBM.

I just saw this info in the Outlaw news letter. It seems like such a good deal I'm trying to figure out how I'll use a second ICBM.I have 2 players that play DVD-A but not a SACD player.I like how the ICBM works so much I wish I could use it on everything in my system.I do use a separate 6 channel amp after my receiver. Hmmmmmm.I just don't see how anyone can stand to listen to DVD-A or SACD without an ICBM once they've heard the difference.I love the Outlaw connectors. Looks like a great deal to me.

I have the 950/7100 combo and a $150 gift certificate from Outlaw. The ICBM deal looks good; do I need it with the 950? What would it do for my system?

You don't really need the ICBM with a 950/7100 combo -- the 950's bass management duplicates almost all of the ICBM's capabilities.

I purchased an ICBM in order to run stereo subs. If not for that, the 950's bass management would have been fine.

The ICBM will eliminate all the "double bass" problems w/ the 950, right?

I've recently upgraded my speakers to full range (VMPS RM40s) and I get a REALLY annoying double bass when I do any 2 channel listening. I have to turn off my subs (either in the processor or the power switches) and I'd like a better solution.

Seems like the ICBM will do the trick?

Also, how do you set-up the 950 to work w/ the ICBM? Set all speakers to large and sub to off?
Does this have any drawbacks? Will any signal get discarded?

thanks
Jon

John -- Waiting for an architect to arrive for a meeting, so... Are you planning to put the ICBM between the 950 and the amp? Assuming so, I would recommend setting all speakers to large and leaving the sub on (if it's "off" the 950 will fold the LFE track into the mains on 5.1 material).

There is also the 5.1 analog input to consider, if you are using it. I would recommend switching the 950's analog bass management on to eliminate double bass there, but I'm also curious to hear what others around here think of that approach.

Gonk,

yeah, I'm wanting to use the ICBM to eliminate the double bass I'm currently getting in both stereo bypass and 5.1 analog input.

My settings on the 950 are fronts large, everything else small, sub on.
I've turned the bass management toggle switch to "off" and whenever I'm in 6 channel bypass w/ just 2 channels playing (I use my dvd player for both 2 channel stereo and dvd-audio) I get a lot of bass out of the sub. Only way to cure it is to turn the sub off (there seems to be plenty of bass coming from the mains).

I'm just wondering how I would set up the ICBM & 950 to solve this.

Guess some experimenting is the only way.

Actually, I should say my IDEAL situation would be this:

For home theater/tv run everything as small w/ the front xo at 40hz, center xo at 60hz and surrounds and back xo at 80hz

and then go into "stereo bypass" and run the fronts as large w/ no xo to the subs.

That would be my ideal, and that's what I thought the entire notion of "stereo bypass" was.

You may want to switch it back to "on" -- the low-pass crossover that sends material below 80Hz from the full-range channels to the sub is always active, even when the high-pass crossovers (which are controlled by the on/off switch) are disabled, which is creating the double bass that you are encountering. (Also, for a summary of the 950's bass management options, you might look here . It can get a bit confusing at times.)
