Knowledgeable audiophiles and videophiles forgive me.

Do I understand this correctly--since the 950 manages bass in the digital domain and the ICBM in the analog domain I will get no benefit from the ICBM with respect to my DVD player, the audio of which is hooked up digitally, but would only see ICBM benefit if my source were analog?

You understand correctly. The 950 offers very extensive bass management, so adding an ICBM between the 950 and your amp is unnecessary. The 950's bass management will not work for 5.1 channel analog inputs, so if you are connecting a DVD player, DVD-Audio player, or SACD player to the 950 via the analog input you would have a good place to use the ICBM.
