Ok, have a total brain freeze here. When you hook up the 950 to an amp like the 7100, can you use digital coax cables like these? Or do you need something else?

Going to pull the trigger and buy the 950/7100 combo probably today. Simply need to resolve my wiring question. Is this what I reall need? Like 3 pairs +1?

The Blue Jeans digital coax/subwoofer/composite video cables would work and could be used -- you would obviously need one per channel driven (so if you had seven speakers and were therefore using all seven channels of the 7100, you'd need seven cables). Typically a digital coax cable (or composite video cable, the two are for all intents and purposes interchangeable) is rated as a 75ohm cable, which an analog audio interconnect (like the second Blue Jeans Cable link you have) is not; the digital coax cable can also do analog audio, but the analog audio can't do digital coax or video.

The order page includes an option for seven 0.5-meter PCA cables for $104.95. On the order page, it is the third option in the PCA section. If your 950 and 7100 will be fairly close together and you have access to the back of your equipment rack, the 0.5-meter PCA is an excellent choice.

I just ordered my 950/770 combo as well as 7 0.5-meter PCA's. The cables were listed at $104.95 but they only charged me $99.95... guess that is the price when purchased with the 950/770 combo. I would assume you would get the same price if you get the 950/7100.

I don't get it. I have used all sorts of bizzare things as a digital coax connection for one reason or another and have never had a problem. Am I not getting something? Just curious.

Analog cables *may* work for a digital coax connection, but they are not recommended. Digital coax cable is specified as shielded, 75 ohm cable. (Same as video cable, actually.) Analog RCA cable usually is lower impedance, and cheap cables aren't even shielded.
