I have been getting some audio dropouts recently with my 950. Of course I don't really know if it is the 950 or my Toshiba SD6200 player. It seems to happen completely at random on every disc I have played for the last week.

When it happens the LCD readout on the 950 blinks like it is reaquiring the signal.

Any thoughts on what may be causing this???

You might try a PSC Video cable from your Dvd player to the 950. I once had audio drop outs with my 950 and the cause was the cable. If you have a progressive scan Dvd player you really should use a PSV cable.

Umm okay I will bite. Just what exactly is a PSC or PSV video cable? I currently use a Straightwire optical cable.

Thanks

I had audio drop-outs using the TOSLink and coax digital connections on my 1050 which were 1sec long and random. I swapped DVD players and cured the problem.

PSC is one of Outlaw's cables -- it's a coax cable that can be used for coax digital audio, composite video, and (with three of them) component video.

When the display on the 950 blinks, is it blinking like off and then back on, or is it just displaying the incoming signal format on the right for a few seconds before going back to normal? If it's the former (display going dark), then I'd say your 950 has a problem. If it's the latter, then either the player, digital audio cable, or 950 is dropping the signal briefly (possibly very briefly) and the 950 is having to re-acquire it.

Well I tried using the coxial connection instead of the optical and had the same results ie. dropouts.

Gonk
The 950's display does not go blank it just displays the incoming signal for a few seconds then goes back to normal.

Do you have any other digital components hooked up to the 950 that either are or are not showing this?

Which version of the 950 do you have? I had an older unit, which had a similar problem, which was swapped out with a blue dot by the Outlaws and everything has been flawless since then. Of course your problem could still be related to your source or the cables, and I would recommend trying to eliminate those if you have a relatively new unit.

I have my CD player hooked up using a coxial cable with no problems at all.

I have a first shipment 950, aka non blue dot. However I haven't had a single problem for the year I have had it which leads me to think it isn't the 950 itself.

Of course I could be wrong though

I will try a different DVD player next and see if that helps. Unfortunately I am going out of town tonight for several weeks and will have to wait till I return.

Thanks everyone, I will let you know as soon as I find out the culprit......
