I'm battling this remote control since my Marantz RC-2000 has decided to die on me and I can't figure out how to program the Video 2 or TV button to work my RCA satellite box. I followed the directions, but I don't see how you select a different component (i.e. DVD, Satellite, CD) for the different input selections (i.e. Video 1, Video 2, or Video 3). If I just push mute and the source button which in my case is TV and then put in the code for the RCA box, 001. It doesn't work. What am I missing?

Mick

PS - I'm looking for a new remote control but don't want to spend more than $250. I've heard good things about the MX-500, but does anybody have any recommendations?

I know that this has come up once before, but I can't seem to find the thread at the moment. You might want to download a copy of the SL-9000 manual as it offers more detail into the capabilities of the 950's remote. On page 33 of that manual (page 34 in the PDF file), it described the procedure for programming a device to a different device button. This is the procedure you need to use to set up a DVD player on the SAT device, or a VCR on the TAPE device, or even a satellite box on the TV device. Here's the details:

    [*]Turn on the device.
[*]On the remote control, press the Device Button that you will assign (in this case, the Video2 button) for the device and theMUTE button, simultaneously.
[*]Press the Device Button that corresponds to the original device (in this case, the Video 1 / SAT button).
[*]Locate the Set-Up Code number for the device from the tables found on pages 39-57 (or from the 950's manual).
[*]Point the remote toward the device and press in the first Set-Up Code number. Your device will turn off when the correct Set-Up Code number has been selected. If it does not turn off, select the next Set-Up Code number from the table, and press in that code number. When your device turns off, proceed to Step 6.
[*]Press the Device Button that was selected in Step 2 to store the Set-Up Code number.

There is a topic called "Can the TV button on the remote be made to not switch to video 2 input?" Is that what you were looking for?

I can't always link the cool way for some reason. Everythingwill be exactly the same as an example gonk gave awhile ago, minus the spaces around url, but it will post exactly what I type in. Oh well.

Hi Mick,

I am thinking of selling my Marantz RC-5000i if you or anyone else is interested. Should be able to settle on a price within your range.

Let me know,
Scott

Thanks for the offer, but I've tried a similar model remote before (I think it was the Pronto TSU-200) and I was too stupid (or too impatient) to figure out how to use the thing.

I had an RC-2000 also, Mick. I now use the MX-500. If you liked the 2000, you'll love the 500 as it is much easier to use (and see) with nicer features and a better layout. And-- it's simple to set up and use. Like you, I have no patience when it comes to figuring out how to use or program a remote. MX-500- easy! If you haven't yet, go to Remote Central for lots of info on it and others. Best...

The MX-500 is now on my X-mas list from the wife. Thanks for the recommendation.
