To those of you lucky enough to have a 950, have you used the video conversion, and if so, how does it look? I know Outlaw said they did away with the feature, but I am wondering if it does even an acceptable job of upconverting composite signals to s-video signals. I would very much like to upconvert the output of my cable box and VCR to s-video so that I can use the 950 for video switching. My 11 yr old JVC tv has a beautiful picture, but will only accept the s-video input as long as nothing is plugged into the composite input. If the 950 does a poor job converting signals, I will be forced to run the dvd through a composite signal. I will eventually go to HDTV, but not until broadcasters, cable companies, and manufacturers quit their bickering. Until then, my JVC is my monitor.

Will,

I have not. I’ve been using component. If I move our Display around I’ll try and find the right cables and see if I can check the conversion for you in the next few days. I too had JVC for my last set. It was a great unit, no problems and a really nice, nice picture, under very heavy use. Was so happy with that purchase I would have gone JVC again, but they did not make the type/size we were looking at.
I’m going to check JVC's line, for my next bedroom TV though.

I's say it will depend on the size of your screen. I've looked at the conversion on a 72" screen and it's a bit soft. On my 27" directview it's fine. I think the difference between S-video and composite is pretty minor on small screens, even when perfectly implemented.

On my 27" screen, the effect is noticable and annoying. Not horrible, though; it's more like looking through a screen door. That's moving.
