*IF* it's going to ship by the 31st. I'm not holding my breath. I'd still like to see a product manual soon, though. One would think that the manual would not be affected by the various bugfix date slippages.

Ya. CES is over, so presumably they're all back at their desks now. The least they could do is send out a new item on the "news" page with a reference to the IR1000 that everyone knows exists now.

I just paid off the credit card bill for the last round of purchases, so now I'm chomping at the bit again. Can't let that balance stay at $0! It's not proper!

Its been a month and 3 days since the reservations started. They told us they were going to tell us something in 3 weeks. They said they were going to post pictures in conjunction with CES. We have not even heard a whisper from Great Scott. Im even staying up late because sometimes they email at 10:00. Im sure we will definately here something by Friday. I truly believe im starting to die slowly. Please outlaws I wont write nothin' bad no more honest. I just want my 950. Everybody is so tired of waiting, people have seem to stop posting as much. Its like we are all just quietly waiting. Anyway anybody check out the parasound dvd with dvi output. Or the toshiba with the blue laser capable of hdtv dvd that we wont see for 2 years. They described the picture as delicious. Maybe they will have something like that at the home entertainment show in NYC. Maybe if pat or matthill go we could hook up boys.

I'm starting to think maybe the 950 doesn't actually exist. All the "photographs" we've seen on the site so far must have been made with Photoshop. Has anyone actually seen a 950 with their own eyes? This is all just a cruel hoax.

I agree 100% with drewman. I am staring to lose interest. Think I may go out this weekend to listen to a few pre/pros. Sure, the 950 seems like a great deal but I'm starting to think it will be eternal vaporware. Very disappointing.

You only need about $7000 for the Lexicon!

Really guys I don't know why you are so impatient, you've only been waiting 2 years

I have decided that since this looks like a bargain, I will give them until Valentines day to start shipping. If they haven't started to ship by then, then I will assume they have suckered us all and go out and buy an Integra RDC-7, or see what kind of reports the new Cinepro, which should be out about then, is getting.

I think at this stage that no news is really irratating me.

Scott was nice enough to email a response to me a few days ago that said they will be shipping within 30 days, but at this point I will beleive it when I see it.

I guess after being told it's just around the corner many, many ,many, many times that I'm starting to get cynical :tu:

Well, a lot of people have been waiting since October or even earlier. After all, wasn't the "original" ship date back in August? Then October, then Thanksgiving, then Hannukah, then Christmas, then 1st week January, then end of January, now who knows...

I'm suprised I haven't burned the "latest news" page into my screen, I look at it so often looking for any kind of update. I'm getting really antsy here and I so is the buyer I have lined up for my receiver that I'm currently using as a pre/pro. I'm starting to explore other options and I'm not sure how much longer I can wait.

And would anyone else besides me like an explanation of the P2000 Pre/Pro? Did this have something to do with the 950 being delayed?

I'm one of the people who just couldn't wait for the 950 anymore, and pulled the trigger on a used Lexicon DC-1 v4.0.

I found it for $1188 (you might have seen the listing on Audiogon), and couldn't be happier. The sound is terrific in both HT and music, and the setup options are first-rate. (The lack of component connectors doesn't bother me as my EAD DVD feeds right into my TV.) Those of you who can't wait might want to go the same route.
This isn't meant to denigrate Outlaw in any way, as they make terrific stuff (I'm the proud owner of a 750 amp), but I thought I'd share my experiences in case any of you were curious and not willing to wait anymore.

I couldn't wait either, so I took a different route. Upgraded to a Denon 3802(from a Denon 2700) This will get me by until the 950 and 770 are released. Depending on reviews I'm thinking I'll add the 770 first using the 3802 as a pre-pro and then-depending on reviews-possibly sell off the 3802 later this year and replace it with the 950. In the meantime I have something to hold me over. Probably not the most cost effective route, but that's why I didn't go with the 4802, figured I'd lose more driving that one off the lot

Does anyone know if/when Lexicon will be releasing DPL II and/or DTS-ES discrete for the DC-1/DC-2/MC-1?

My ass is bright red from all the kicking I've been doing to myself for passing up an awesome deal on a used MC-1 at a local dealer here in Chicago while I was waiting for the 950. He was going to sell me a loaded MC-1 (v4.0 DD, DTS, EX...) for $1750.

Now I'm thinking about selling off my amps and buying a Pioneer Elite VSX-49TX.

Maybe we can all band together and persuade Lexicon to give us a volume discount on the MC-12.

the avm20 is really impressive, but the number of digital inputs is disappointing compared to the 950 (3 vs 6).

Just followed the link, there's a back panel drawing. I can see a total of 11 Digital Inputs, 7 coaxial, 3 optical and 1 AES/EBU on XLR, that's a lot more than the outlaw IHMO.

It's been nearly a month now, without even any NEWS. I'm one of the first people on the 950 waiting list, and I haven't heard anything yet, either, which means at the very least that they're going to slip the end of January release date... This is rapidly moving from annoying to infuriating. What's the delay because of now? Are they still trying to fix that DD dropout bug? Did they fix that and find another bug? Is the plant in Malaysia not producing quality boards? What?

Obviously, if "The Outlaws" had ANY good news at all.......they would have posted it either here on the Saloon (which they no doubt monitor) or as a News Update on their web site.

These guys are (I assume) intellegent business folks who understand marketing, as well as their customer base. And if they do in fact monitor/moderate this forum site, they surely know that their loyal customer base is disintegrating every minute they remain silent on these issues with the 950.

I too am one of many HT enthusiasts who have $$$ burning a hole in my pocket. I've got a serious Jones to buy a new HT set up....yesterday. If I don't hear any news (good or bad) soon........I'm just going to pull the trigger elsewhere. Maybe, just maybe, this 950 has got so many problems, that it isn't worth waiting for. And maybe that's why these boys aren't talking.

Which brings me to my original point. They know that they need to communicate with us, yet they don't. This tells me that (at least from their perspective) whatever thay do have to say must be pretty bad news. They obviuosly believe that any statement from them regarding the situation with the 950 would cause even greater harm than their deafening silence.

Evidently there must be some pretty nasty news out there regarding the AT 2000.

Evidently there must be some pretty ugly updates on the shipping status of the 950 itself.

Maybe they spoke too soon as to the capabilities of this new dream 950 pre-amp.

Maybe they've gotten their #^*$?@ in a sling over patents or something.

One thing is for sure, that the consumers will continue to speculate until "The Outlaws" themselves come forth and level with us, somehow, someway.

Or maybe, just maybe, "....all that glitters is not gold."

To MikeS and Stunr I say congrats on your new toys. You certainly will enjoy them for many hours. I was wondering how much you each paid for your new babies. The cheapest i've seen the bk 30 was for $2300, and the anthem20 $2500. Almost the $2700 total you would have paid for the 950/770 combo. I wish I could spend an extra $1400-1600 bucks.
I wait another 3 months for that money. Thats money towards some new speakers for me and my amateur ears probably wont hear the difference anyway.

Buy a temporary receiver. That's what I did. I had speakers lying around my apartment unused until I finally decided to buy a 1050 a few weeks ago. I plan to sell it as soon as the 950 is released.

Maybe they (Outlaw) should give out loner 1050s until the 950 is released (with the understanding that a 950 WILL be purchased)? That would be good customer service! After all, they should keep us informed of progress (or lack of) so we (the consumers) can plan our lives.

That would be a lot of B stock receivers for them to unload after they do release the 950. I think the multiple delays are probably costing them enough already.

Would I not be better off buying a B&K Ref 30 or Lexicon instead of a 1050 and then a 950? The cost would be about the same (used street prices)and I would not end up with an extra piece of equipment to unload!

Isn't the B&K somewhere around $2500 or so? I think a 950 + a 1050 still beats that, especially if you unload the 1050 for only a small loss. I'm reselling my 1050 for $400, so I'll basically be out $1000 by the time I get the 950.

You can probably get a new Ref 30 for around $2200 if you shop around some, or the Anthem AVM-20 for between $2600 and $3200. A Lexicon is likely to cost even more, unless you go with a used DC-1 (which would probably cost between $1000 and $1500). The 1050 will set you back $500, and will likely earn you a "family" discount (probably $50 or so, but they haven't announced anything yet about it) on the 950. That makes the combined cost around $1350, discounting the $100 or so you'll probably have to pay in shipping (but we've been ignoring shipping and/or tax anyway...). Worst case, you could sell the 1050 on Audiogon or eBay for more than $300 (there's a 1050 on Audiogon that sold for $330, I'd probably ask closer to $400 for one with only a month or two of use on it) or have it for a bedroom system. Now, there is the fact that a B&K Ref 30 or Anthem would give more performance than a 1050 while you wait, and nobody really knows how the 950 would compare to the pre/pros that are currently available (you may end up with something you'd like more in the long term, too, although at a higher cost). If you are like stott or Matthew Hill or slick1964 and need something to serve as processor, an inexpensive receiver as temporary pre/pro is one option if you really want to go with the 950 (or your budget won't allow some of the more expensive pre/pro options available and you don't want to go with an older model like the Lexicon DC-1). If you are just wanting to upgrade an existing system and are tired of waiting, that's a whole different story...

It does. In fact, with the v2.0 upgrade, the AVM-20 has one of the most thorough lists of sound modes I've seen.

Here's the list:

Stereo
AnthemLogic-Music
AnthemLogic-Cinema
Pro Logic II Music
Pro Logic II Movie
Dolby Pro Logic
DTS Neo:6 Music
DTS Neo:6 Cinema
All-Channel Stereo
All-Channel Mono
Mono
Mono-Academy
Dolby Digital
Dolby Digital EX
DTS
DTS-ES Matrix
DTS-ES Discrete

and four THX modes:

THX Cinema (for DPL, PL II, DD & DTS 5.1)
THX Ultra 2 Cinema (takes above to 7.1)
THX MusicMode (part of Ultra 2)
THX Surround EX (different from DD-EX)

The operating manual for v2.0 is available for download on their site (interesting reading, with very thorough explanations of features and surround modes):

http://www.anthemav.com/frames/manuals2fr.html

Best,
Sanjay

with the v2.0 upgrade, the AVM-20 has one of the most thorough lists of sound modes I've seen.

With all its modes and features, maybe the Anthem is the model to get, in the price range that's just above the Rotel 1066.

Some people didn't consider the Anthem before, because it didn't have DPL II. Does it cost any more than it cost before as a new model, now that it has DPL-II?

From what I've read, Anthem said that they would increase the list price of the AVM-20 by the cost of the upgrade: i.e., $300. However I don't know if they've actually gone through with it. Besides, if the dealer discounts it to a price that's comfortable for you, it may not matter what the MSRP was.

(BTW, was in your neck o'the woods yesterday: jury duty at the Santa Monica courthouse. Blech!)

Best,
Sanjay

(Sorry to hear that. But... If you have to be on Jury Duty, I can't think of another courthouse I'd rather serve at.)
