I have been lurking on this list for the past month debating whether to purchase the 1050 and be happy with limited digital options or plunge into the 950. Is it crazy to wait and buy something that I currently have no way of hooking up to my speakers? I think so! Every day I think, "hey, let's get that instant gratification and go for the 1050," then I browse the forums, amazed at the dedication and patience people have with this company and realize… I want to wait too. Even though I don’t currently have a way to connect the 950, I have been stubbornly convinced to throw my lot in with you other outlaws. Hey, while I’m at it, I’m going to wait for the 7100 too. Oi vey!

Well, I used to own the 1050 and now own the 950. The 1050 can still hold its own with other recievers near its price point. Its a TAD dated in terms of features, but sounds nice.

I used my 1050 strictly as a preamp. I wanted to get a true preamp, and the only one I could afford was the 950.(yes the Roltel is not too much more, but $500 is $500. They are too similar to justify the $ difference, IMHO) I got my 950 before the halt in production.

The difference between the 950 and 1050 is not night and day with DTS/DD stuff, but I do like the 950 more. As far as two channel sources, the 950 IS a night and day improvement over the 1050. Same goes for older ProLogic suff and cable/sat. The 950 simply outclasses the 1050, its not even close, IMHO.

I didn't care that the 950 had PL2, but I found I like it a lot for cable sound.

The 950/7100 combo will cost MUCH more than the 1050, something my direct comparison does not take into account. IF you have the funds and are a patient person, waiting for the 950/amp combo will definately be worth it.

Good luck,

Six

Or you could just get the 770 and not have to wait for the 7100.

Oh Yeah, thanks! I would too if I part with the cash. That trip to Jamaica took care of any more mega splurges... nose to the grindstone for the next little while. I must admit though, this delay has been a good thing in a way... more $bongos to save!
