I happened across a new review of the LFM-1, this time from Audioholics . It is actually a pretty interesting comparison of the LFM-1 to one of the larger and more expensive SVS subs (the PB2-ISD, a dual-driver box sub that sells for $899). Obviously, the PB2 goes deeper, but the LFM-1 performed as well or better down to the low 20's and was considered a better value. It's worth a read if you are sub shopping - both are clearly very good subs in their own right.

After this review came out, I stumbled across a thread on the HTF site.

I find it odd that everyone labels the LFM-1 as simply a re-badged HSU STF-3. I know they are very similar designs by Dr. Hsu himself, but the amp is obviously different, and Steve has stated that the driver is also different.

After seeing a comparison of the PB1-ISD against the STF-3 on another board, I was set on getting the SVS unit. However, when gonk here compared the same ISD driver in the 25-35 PCi, he actually favored the LFM-1. I would like to believe that all things considered, the LFM-1 would slightly best the STF-3. Of course this is all subjective, and I'm still immensely satisfied with my decision to get the Outlaw sub.

So Gonk,
I guess the LFM-1 must be WAY better than the SVS model you replaced if it came so close to this model! (What ever became of the 'ol SVS?)

The LFM-1 was a nice upgrade. The old 25-31PCi went on Audiogon some months back and found a new home.
