I HAVE A ADCOM GFA7700 5.1 AMP,[150WATTS].I'M LOOKING TO GET A SET OF SURROUND SPEAKERS,GIVING ME 7.1 SYSTEM.THE SURROUNDS WILL NOT BE POWERED.MY QUESTION IS,DO I HAVE TO USE ALL CHANNELS ON MY GFA7700? CAN I JUST USE IT FOR MY MAINS AND CENTER? WILL THIS GIVE ME MORE POWER?I WOULD LIKE TO DO THIS AND MAYBE GET SOME OF THESE 200'S FOR MY OTHER SPEAKERS.OR MAYBE SOMEONES GOT A BETTER IDEA? THANKS

Welcome to the forum, vikings22. You do not have to use all five channels of your Adcom. Using fewer channels will not provide you any more power on the channels that are driven. The idea of getting a set of four monoblocks for the surrounds will work fine. Another option would be to get two or three M200's for the front soundstage (mains or mains and center) and let the multichannel amp handle the surrounds.

Or you could bi-amp the fronts with the spare channels on the adcom... I would prefer to use gonks last suggestion, using the mulitchannel for surround and the monos for the mains.

FIRST OF ALL, THANK YOU ALL FOR QUICK REPLIES,AND HELPFUL.I THINK I WILL START WITH TWO M-BLOCKS FOR MY MAINS,WHILE USING MY ADCOM FOR SURROUNDS AND CENTER-[FOR NOW].IS IT POSSIBLE TO HOOK THESE AMPS TO A SUBWOOFER THAT ALREADY HAS A BUILT-IN AMP?IT IS A VELODYNE CT-150 AT 250 WATTS. OR WOULD THIS JUST BE OVERKILL?

The sub it's normally conected to the processor or receiver using the .1 output, and if it's overkill it will be just fine. smile

The B-stock are returned and/or refurbished. Some may have minor cosmetic flaws, but that is extremely rare.

Thanks for cutting caps lock off, by the way - definitely easier on the eyes.

Having had my pair of M200's for about four or five months now, I suspect that you'll really enjoy them once they arrive. Glad you like the forum, and I hope to see you around here again.

will i be able to run 4ohm and 8ohm speakers on the amp, -adcom gfa-7700?my mains will be hooked- up to the 2 outlaw 200's.my 2 sets of surrounds and center will be hooked-upto the adcom 7700.the one set of surrounds[ which i have not got yet but checking out is def.tech.bpx]might be 4ohms.could this create a problem? if so maybe a suggestion on another surround speaker,if it must be 8ohms.one more thing,is it better to have all your speakers be from the same company?

The M200's will handle a 4 ohm load without any difficulty. I would assume that the Adcom can also handle 4 ohm loads, but if you're worried you should be able to check the manual and confirm it.

Using speakers from the same company and the same line all the way does help blend the system together, but it is not absolutely essential.

Yes, you should be able to mix the two types of loads.

painttoad, i checked out polk audio's surround speakers. they don't sell fx500's anymore.the similar models are the fxi5 at 599.00,20-125 watts, and the fxi3 at 419.00,20-150 watts.def. tech bpx- 899.00,15-350 watts.polk also has the lsifx series at 1149.99,20-200 watts.pricing as pairs.

hmmm, really don't know what to tell you.just demo before you buy(30 days in home is ideal),but,if i was buying surround speakers,i would want to listen to them using them as mains.(with sub,of course).for the kind of money you are quoting, those surrounds should perform VERY well as mains!(may have to tweak bass management to get them to blend in)it's really gonna be up to you and $$$.just demo and don't take the salesman's word!

The DefTech BPX's are bipoles - wouldn't want to demo them as mains. Same with the Polks.

I'd tend toward the Polks since they are most likely to match your existing Polk speakers, but as painttoad suggests, it would be good to get the chance for an in-home demo.

gonk, what i suggested was only to get a feel for the speakers,if they sound good up front they will be fine in back,if they sound so-so up front they may still perform in the rear, but for that kind of money(they seem to be pretty proud)i'd want a kick butt pair of speakers!i would wanna rock 'em up front to make sure they 'are all that',know what i mean?

look at me,i'm runnin' 601's up front, when the time and $$$ comes, they'll go to the rear(and perform!)

i use a basket case of b&w(front),infinity(canter/surrounds),monitor(sub)if you go here:

,you can see what most outlaws are running.

tell ya,a couple of years of messin' with it(i actually went back to hangin') and that is the best sound i've achieved.but the best effect is listening to 2(.1) channel music.i actually have to look at my 1050 to make sure i'm in 2 ch mode.i'll demo for somebody(1st time visitor) tidal-fionna apple, and they are like'man that speaker is great'of course i get to say it's not even on!my 601's seem to give the perfect image of fionna singing from that speaker!it is nothing short of awesome!

Vikings22,
Just for the additional info, I had the ADCOM 7700 driving Dynaudios (4 ohms at best) in front and Paradigm surrounds. I tried the M200s for all channels and liked them better, by a small margin. I now have 5 M200s and they drive these inefficient speakers very well. I sold the 7700 and would buy the M200s again in a second, I like them taht much. Maybe 2 more for 7.1? Good luck!

my new m200s came wednesday afternoon, and where set up shortly there after.they are suppling my mains, which are polk rti800s.they are great.i can hear a difference in the adcom amp and the outlaws amp. the adcom sounds better for surround, but the outlaws rule when it comes to music. maybe it's the way i have my room set-up,or just my ears.now i would like to add a 3rd outlaw m200,for my center channel.life is good.can not wait to get home and play my music. i'm playing music i haven't listened to in months. still not sure about surrounds or bookshelf speakers,or company, polk,def.tech. etc..listened to def. tech 7002s,outstanding sound. i listen to mostly heavey metal, rock, some southeren rock.
