I'm seriously considering a pair of M200's to insert between my 1050 & Rocket 750's in my upstairs listening (and generic TV watching) system. The problem is that they would have to reside on the middle shelf of my AV stand. That would put the top one (I'd stack them) about 4-5 inches below the bottom of the TV (a 36" Toshiba CRT). Should I have any worries about magnetic fields messing up the TV with them so close to it?

Thanks,

This is going to be one of those cases where only someone with the same set-up will be able to give you a definitive answer. It depends on the amp - and the TV - and the geometric relationship between the two.

For what it's worth I have a small, cheap, Sharp 14" TV, that I use as a second source monitor, sitting less that a foot from the top of a Carver A-400X amp, the only thing separating them being a woodden shelf and air. When I first plunked the TV down I did notice some mag field effects. I rotated the TV several degrees and moved it back on its shelf and the noticeable effects disappeared. Since I only use it for non-critical viewing it's not a big deal in any case.

You can only know for sure by trial and error.

If I recall, the M200s have torroidal power transformers, so magnetic flux leakage from them should be low.

If your AV stand is made out of steel (at least the shelves), they will act as shielding.

I would also consider moving the 950 up to the shelf that the vcr is presently on and then placing the M200s on the shelf that the 950 has now vacated. The 950 will now be in a somewhat more accessible location and the AC line cords to the M200s and speaker leads do not have to go by the 950. Yada ...yada...yada...
