Hi everyone,

I'm considering a used 1050 for my bedroom setup. That, and the Denon 1802 and Onkyo 595.

Anyway, I haven't seen too many used 1050's around. Where's the best place to find them? How much do they usually go for? DO you think there will be a few for sale when the 950 comes out?

Thanks, Aaorn

I saw an ad for a used (3-4 months old) 1050 on audiogon recently that sold for $399 plus shipping. That's the only one I've ever seen for sale used. You might also find the Denon or Onkyo you're looking for on audiogon, but there usually aren't many home theater receivers on there. In a quick check of eBay, there doesn't appear to have ever been an Outlaw product sold there. As you suggest, there may be a few 1050's going up for sale once the 950's ship (I've got a co-worker who may buy mine if I upgrade to a 950).

I have a standing offer from a friend to buy my 1050 as soon as the 950 comes out for $400. We made this agreement before I bought the 1050.

In fact, we came to this solution because he was planning on upgrading his two-channel receiver to a five-channel receiver in a few months, and was in the process of shopping around. I'd bought my Axiom speakers already and was waiting for the 950. After the third or fourth delay, I floated the solution of buying a temporary receiver and then reselling it to him later.

The deal was he'd get to pick it out and I'd keep it until the 950 came out, and he'd get a $100 discount. Lo and behold, he picked the 1050. :-)

I think $400 is a fair price for a used 1050 since they don't really degrade from use and the only thing you're missing from buying one used is the joy of opening a brand-new box.

amheck, you might consider a b-stock direct from Outlaw if they're available. The 1050 FAQ says they're $449 but as of last month Outlaw was selling them for $429 -- since I live 20 min. from Outlaw "HQ" (co-founder's garage) in Durham NH, I picked one up in person, thereby saving the shipping cost (which is $55 overnight or something like $39 via UPS Ground). The returns to Durham are from customers sending them back within the 30-day trial period but not because they're broken -- units requiring repair get sent instead to an Outlaw location in CA (according to what the Outlaws in NH told me).

Mine works perfectly and has no cosmetic flaws either. One thing to consider is the warranty is only 6 months on b-stocks rather than 2 years for a "new" unit, but that's still 6 months more coverage than you could expect if you were buying one via ebay or wherever.

I'm very happy with my purchase.

Hmm... if Outlaw "HQ" is the co-founder's garage, then where do their hordes of engineers and marketing professionals live?
