My previous preamp had the ability to listen to one source while viewing another by just pressing a button. Is this possible with the 950? Can't seem to find this function anywhere.

The only way to do this with the 950 is to listen to an audio-only source after previously viewing the video source. Example: switch to DVD source, then to CD - you'll be watching the DVD still while listening to CD.

Thank you much. Follow up question. I'm listening to CDs now through my DVD player (video routed directly to projector). Can I connect the DVD player to the CD input of the 950 and still expect it to do the necessary soundtrack decoding (DTS, DD etc...) when watching movies? Thanks again for any help.

Yes, you can - and there are two ways to do it. One is to connect both the digital audio (coaxial or optical) to the 990 for DVD and stereo analog audio to the 990 for CD, but another way (which is what I've been doing) is to connect just the digital audio and assign that input to both the DVD and CD inputs of the 990. That way, you can leave the CD input set for stereo (I'd recommend also trying upsample) and have the DVD input set up for surround sound. This approach is preferred in cases where the 990's DAC's are superior to the DVD player's DAC's (and the 990 has some very nice DAC's).
