Well, this may sound a little weird, but it's driving me crazy. Most of the DVD,s I watch are music DVD,s (kinda like being at the concert sort of thing). Anyway, I have a couple of DVD's that seem to only play 5.1 DD only when they feel like it - more often than not they play in 2.0, which is o.k., but I would like to be in "control" of the mode. Yes, I have checked the set-up to 5.1, and they still revert back to 2.0? Happened this afternoon. My Neil Young and Social Distortion DVD's would not play in 5.1 (they have in the past). So I try a Peter Gabriel - 5.1, no problem! What gives? Is my DVD player acting up? Are the DVD,s themselves to blame? Any help out there is well appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like the player is doing something odd since it affects more than one disc. Once you get the DVD playing, can you hit the "Audio" button on your DVD player's remote to see which audio track is in use? Could be useful to find out if the disc has switched from the 5.1 track you selected in the menu to an alternate stereo track, or if the disc is still set to a 5.1 track and the player is doing something screwy with it.

gonk, today I tried hitting the audio button of my DVD player while playing and it just won't let me do anything - just stays in stereo mode. For whatever reason, it just isn't picking-up 5.1 from these two DVD's. Not a big deal, just odd! Thanks for the help.

It sounds almost like a mastering quirk of the discs, possibly a combination of the disc and the player. Is there another player in the house that you could try those discs on?

Sometimes it seems like my DVD player "remembers" settings like that when I play music DVDs, between stereo and 5.1 at least. It'll stick with the choice I made the first time I put the disc in. Even if I remove the disc it'll default to the mode I chose before. Well, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. I think it tries to recognize the disc. I don't seem to have any trouble switching over to the other version by going back to the main menu though.

No, I don't have another player in the house, but I could take a few of the DVD's in question over to my brother's place and give them a try. Thanks again.
