Just got my 950 that replaced a Marantz 550 (my system is posted on the System Forum). Programming the remote macros and individualized buttons has been a trip fraught with some difficulties. I mistakenly made a macro through the power button that took time to get a handle on. I do have some experience programming remotes as I did so with the RC-2000 four years ago.

Some questions:
1. Should ALL keys from my JVC RPTV be able to be programmed?
2. I downloaded the manual of the SL-9000. Even without the LCD can the Outlaw remote perform all of the same functions?
3.In particular I do not like the way the preamp turns on everytime a source key is pressed.
4.All feedback appreciated.
Thanks!

1. I would expect any and all commands from your TV's remote to be able to be learned by the 950's remote. Are there any specific ones that are being problematic.

2. Yep. The 950's remote is an SL-9000 with the LCD display removed. It will perform all of the same functions.

3. This behavior may take some getting used to, but it can also be extremely convenient in a system where the pre/pro is always used for handling the audio (particularly for users who don't use it regularly or spouses who don't want to have the new toy get in the way of them watching TV).

Best of luck in getting the remote squared away. As with all universal remotes, it can take a while, but it's a pretty decent remote once you get there.

Gonk-
Thanks for the response. I called Outlaw tech support today and the fellow stated that he was under the belief that the Outlaw remote is a SL-8000 or 7000. When I called Universal Remotes the OEM tech support guy said w/o the LCD it may be a 6000.

I found it particularly strange that the Universal Remote person could not tell me which model Outlaw utilizes...Oh well!

I have no doubt that the tech support person at Universal may be pretty well removed from the engineering side, and Universal sells a lot of OEM remotes. The SL-8000 and SL-9000 are nearly identical remotes (take a look at url=http://universalremote.com/htm/products/]this page[/url] for specifics of all of their remotes), with the principal difference being that the 9000 supports learning functions (just as the 950's remote does) while the 8000 does not. The SL-7000 is a different beast. There may be an internal model number within Universal for an SL-9000 without the LCD (perhaps they call it a 6000). Either way, the SL-9000 manual is a handy resource for your 950's remote.
