This is just a why not question.

Outlaw sells their cables in sets of 2,6,7 adn 8 cables, but not 5? With 5.1 surround systems probably the most common ( I am guessing here ) why not in a set of 5 cables?

just a thought.

You answered your own question. A 5.1 system consists of 5 speakers AND a .1 channel (a subwoofer). Thus, selling the cables in a package of 6 makes sense.

Not always true...

If you have a powered sub then you only need 5 cables to go from the 950 to a 5 channel amplifier and then you usually need a "longer" 6th cable to go from the 950 to the subwoofer.

Maybe they should offer the cables in "5.1" packs which would include 5-1m cables for interconnects and 1-5m (or maybe even a 10m) for use as an interconnect to the sub.

Just a tought!

How about a set of 3? There are 3 channel amps out there too. Then if you needed a set of 5 you could just order a set of 3 and a stereo pair. This would also give you more flexibility if you wanted different lengths for amps in different locations.

What about the connection between a SACD/DVD-A player and a preamp? Those would be 6 connectors all of the same length.

I do like the three idea...

I think the key factor here is packaging. Like most everybody else, Outlaw packs the PCA's in pairs. With DVD-Audio and SACD, that works out fine -- one stereo pair handles the center and sub connections to the receiver or pre/pro. It makes selling odd numbers of cables a bit tricky, though. Creating a three-pack would probably be the easiest way to accommodate pre-amp to amp setups.
