This review presented information which seemed to imply that the two rear channels were combined into one (4.1 vs 5.1 or 6.1). Can you please clarify the number of channels?

The Outlaw 1050 supports both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 channel sound, as well as the ability to decode a center surround channel from the two surround channels of Dolby Digital 5.1 (not DTS) -- similar to what Dolby Pro Logic did with decoding a center channel from the left and right mains. In other words, when the receiver is given a Dolby Digital 5.1 channel input, it can output all 5.1 channels plus an additional center surround channel. This is referred to as "Surround 6.1" on the Outlaw Model 1050.

Also - if you have a DVD player with analog out on all 'channels,' you can also get the 6th channel from DTS when you go 'analog in' on the Outlaw!
