I gather from reading some earlier posts on this board that the ICBM Magnepan edition was designed for the CC1 and CC2.

I own a Mangnepan CC3, and wondered if a ICBM Magnepan Edition would benefit my home theater setup.

Your thoughts are appreicated.

BTW,
Mains are MGIIIa Maggies with Parts Connection upgraded caps
Surrounds are SMGa Magnepans (just rebuilt)
Sub is Muse Model 18 with new transformer
B&K 200x3 reference
Rotel 1085 200x2

The Magnepan edition of the ICBM would allow you to use a higher crossover point (assuming your current surround processor doesn't already allow that), which could help the speakers blend better with the sub. Unfortunately, the ICBM (both standard and Magnepan edition) has been discontinued. It couldn't hurt to call Outlaw and see if they still have a spare Magnepan edition hanging around the warehouse, but I doubt they still have any.

The standard ICBM has 120 Hz as its highest crossover frequency, and the CC1 and CC2 require something in the range of 160-200 Hz. I have a CC3 crossed over at 80 Hz, which is its rated value, and it seems to be fine. I have tried higher values and do not think I am missing anything at 80 Hz. I do recall reading one review of the CC3 where the reviewer preferred a value of 100 Hz, but this probably depends on placement and other equipment. In any case a normal ICBM, which you are more likely to be able to find used, or most processors should be adequate for the CC3.
