can the icbm be used with the sms-1, I have the sms-1, and I love it, I was wondering if the icbm would make a difference or would it be overkill with the sms-1

The ICBM and SMS-1 address somewhat different issues - the ICBM provides bass management (adjustable crossovers for center, mains, surrounds, and rear surround) for up to six channels, while the SMS-1 provides somewhat different bass management for two channels (fixed 80Hz crossover for mains, separate adjustable crossover for subwoofer) and equalization. In a two-channel system, the combination is probably unnecessary, but in a surround system there are still cases where both units would be able to contribute effectively.

my other question is can I use the Icbm for my bass mgt by setting my reciever to its highest crossover and using the icbm to set the mains, surrounds, center and rears to the most optimal settings, and does the icbm work for movies or just sacds and dvd-a

We need to determine where the ICBM goes in the signal path first.

If you have a universal DVD player (DVD-Audio and SACD), you would put the ICBM between the player's six-channel analog output and the receiver's six-channel analog input. Since receivers generally don't apply any bass management to that input, your receiver's bass management settings don't apply and the ICBM takes care of it. This is the scenario for which the ICBM was designed.

If you want the ICBM do handle all bass management duties, it would need to be after your receiver but before your amp - which means you would either need to have a separate amp or a receiver with pre-out/main-in jumpers to let you tuck the ICBM between the receiver's pre-amp section and its amps. Assuming that is possible in your case, you would want to set all speakers to large in the receiver (thereby avoiding all crossovers at the receiver) and letting the ICBM handle the bass management by itself.

gonk I have a yamaha rxv 2500 and a denon 2910 universal player so I would use the icbm between the denon and the yamaha, now will this just affect the sacd's or both movies and sacd's. I also have the sms-1{again thanks for the help},so the way I have it now is the crossover set to 60 and all speakers set to small in the receiver I have klipsch rf35 towers in front which are good to 37hz, rc35 center good to 55 hz and rs35 surrounds good to 80 hz would the icbm benefit me.

With the ICBM between the Denon and the Yamaha, it will affect SACD's and DVD-A's, but if you are using the digital output from the Denon for movies (which is what I usually recommend) then the ICBM would not do anything when watching movies. I'm not sure how the Denon 2910 does on bass management for DVD-A and SACD, so I don't know how much benefit the ICBM would provide - it could be either a subtle improvement (by allowing you to have some control over crossover points) if the 2910 does apply a standard 80Hz crossover, or it could be a significant improvement if the 2910 does no bass management. I would hope that a unit in the price range of the 2910 would offer at least basic bass management for both DVD-A and SACD, but I haven't gone through the manual to find out for certain.

You could use the ICBM with movies as well if you used the Denon's onboard Dolby Digital and DTS decoders (which could be done simply by selecting the six channel analog input on the Yamaha when playing a video DVD). I tend to stay with digital output for video DVD because my processor has always offered more processing capabilities (such as Pro Logic II, Dolby Digital EX, DTS ES) and bass management capabilities that negated the need for an ICBM, but that doesn't mean everyone should do the same thing I do. smile

yes I do have the Dolby digital and Dts decoders on in the Denon and have 2 channel going to cd in the yamaha, coaxial to dvd in yamaha and 6 channel out from denon to yamaha so I think I have all the bases covered, the thing is I like the sound on the movies but want to help the sacd's a bit,I mean they sound good but want to know if it's worth it to go with an icbm

What about connecting the SMS-1 after the ICBM sub output?

I own an ICBM, and I am considering to buy a SMS-1 to solve some peaks/nulls in my room, in order to get a flatter response across the listening area.

I was thinking to use the ICBM to do the bass management, and them after it, use the SMS-1 for frequency response.

What are your comments?

I don't see any problem with putting an SMS-1 downstream of an ICBM. Obviously you'll want to disable the SMS-1's crossover, but that's not a big deal.

HI gonk, hope I'm not sounding dumb, but if the sms-1 is on the sub output on the reciever and the subs are connected to the output on the sms-1, and the icbm is between the dvd player and the reciever, than the icbm is taking care of bas management and the sms-1 is just used to flatten out the room response is this correct as i'm thinkihg of purchasing an icbm sometime soon.

You've got it - the SMS-1 does include some bass management ability, but it is secondary to the primary purpose of flattening out the room response.
