I currently have an ICBM hooked up as
DVD->ICBM->Pre->Amp

what would the advantage be to hooking it up as:
DVD->Pre->ICBM->Amp

as I see some of you are doing here.

BTW, I am using an Onkyo 898 AVR as my pre and a Sherbourn 5/1500A (200x5) amp, along with a Panny RP91 DVD-A player, a single sub, Rocket speakers.

If I do this, I will set my speakers to large on the Onk, with sub set to yes.

Any risk involved here, any advantage here?

TIA

Some people put the ICBM between pre/pro and amp to provide superior bass management on all sources rather than just on the DVD-Audio/SACD source. The ICBM would still give you bass management for DVD-Audio playback from the RP-91, but you would (as you already note) disable all bass management in the Onkyo and let the ICBM handle it. There's no real risk involved. In addition to disabling the bass management, Outlaw recommends that you set the delays to be the same all the way around (or "zero" all the way around).

Thanks Gonk, Looks like this is what I am looking for, since I currently miss the ICBM control on digital sources I'll give it a try.

There is one possibly minor downside to having the ICBM between the pre/pro and amp.

You would loose the ability to tweak the sub channel (combined .1 and redirected bass) via a remote control.

While you would still be able to raise or lower the what is labeled as the sub, it would only have whatver content is on the .1. channel. The redirected bass is happenning AFTER the pre/pro, so the sub channel in the pre/pro would only be the .1.

I typically do like to tweak my combined sub channel occasionally, depending on program content. For that reason, I have opted to keep the ICBM between the DVD player and my receiver.
