After a few years of sitting on the fence I finally jumped off with buying the 990/7125 combo with the intent of picking up either the new 7500 or 7700 models when they become available.

However here is my concern/question that might either be a dumb question or a hard question but I'm betting it's more of a dumb one.

So based on specifications of the 755 and 770 I'm guessing the 7500 and 7700 would be similar (5 channel 200W or 7 channel 200W)

What I'm a bit concerned about is that the amperage of those amps is higher than the specs on my speakers. I have a set from Klipsch, the Reference Series 3. So an RF-3, 2xRS-3, RC3, and the KSW15 subwoofer.

The RS-3s specs say 110W with 300W Peak, the RF-3s are 150 with 600 peak, and the RC-3 is 150 with 400 peak.

Would a 200W amp be 'bad' and I should just stick with the 7125 that is coming or do the peak number cover me? I'm not going to listen at '11' all the time (if ever) but I don't want to damage my speakers as they've been great for me since I got them in 1999.

Unless you peg the volume at reference levels for extended periods of time, you'll be fine. Keep in mind that a lot of that power is in the bass range and that's all going to be diverted to the sub by your 990. Also, overdriving a speaker with a nice crisp signal isn't *nearly* as bad as driving it within spec by an amp that's overextended and starting to distort.

In short, I wouldn't worry about it. The extra power comes in handy for dynamic music/movies and is unlikely to harm your speakers.

I can't imagine cranking it way up with the Klipsch speakers in any event as they're a bit shrill to begin with. They do have the advantage of being quite efficient though.

Cheers,

I use a 755 with Klipsch RF-25s and it works great. The RF-25s are only rated at 125 Watts continuous. With the sensitivy of any Klipsch speakers, the sound will get way too loud before you get to 200 Watts. It does really help with control and authority of the lows with the extra wattage though.
