I was wondering if it would be OK to put the amp on its side? I would attach four rubber sticky feet.

Thanks,
John Flegert

I'd toss that query past Outlaw support before I did it. Some concerns that come to mind are structural strength (there's a lot of weight in there that is designed to be supported from below, not from one side) and ventilation.

Thanks for the reply gonk. I asked support, and here is there response (for those who are interested):

Quote:
The Model 755 does not have the internal bracing to support its weight
while placed on its side. We strongly discourage doing so as damage will
likely result.

Ah, that's what I was afraid of. Those heat sinks are stout. Oh, well, it was worth asking...

Hmmm... Doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement for strutctural integrity.... eek

I dunno about that - if you put a building on its side, there's a lot of equipment that would fall right out. wink .

Besides, I suspect that is a fairly conservative answer - if the amp sections fell the moment the amp turned on its side, they'd never survive shipping.

Regardless, any electonic component should be able to unconditionally survive simply setting it on it's side. More to the point, any electonic component I would buy would have to be sturdy enough to avoid damage from such a simple thing as being situated in a non-traditional mounting.

If the shipping company puts the box on its side (or *gasp* upside down!) are you SOL? eek I'm pretty sure that they are speaking in very long-terms there and in regards to the heat sink being able to do its job. smile Like SH said, if I can't set the thing on its side for a few minutes while I work on something then it's not a component that I'd like to have in my system to to reliability concerns. This probably applies to most any HT component as they tend to be engineered to sit in basically one position.
