If you were going to demo your system for say less than 30 minutes to give a person a highlight of your surround 7.1 system and also showcase some good powerful subwoofer effects which movie and which specific scenes would you show?

so far I've been using Star Wars episode I, the Pod race, and I know that T2, the bar scene is pretty good?

A) for DVD
B) for Blu Ray

While not specifc to 7.1, I highly recommend as we did in another thread to check out the Master and Commander DVD, specifically the earlier scene with the first exchange of cannon fire. It rips laugh

Try the begining of chapter 11 from 'Mission to Mars', where the mission commander's voice circles the room when played back using Pro Logic IIx.

Also listen to all of chapter 16 from 'Blade II' for some good examples of rear vs side imaging in the surround field.

Thanks for the great input, I would have never guessed some of those titles!

I guess now that blu ray seems to be the winner I need to think about what is the best player for my needs to play some of those selections?

I like the Kingdom. The ending sequence gives you plenty of low freqs. for punch as well as having moments of relative quite. Only the most subtle noises are heard as they sneak around the corridors in search of their friend. Then just like that you get rocked with heavy gun play. Also, I like how they have omitted any soundtrack during these scenes. It just feels more life like somehow when they do. Really draws you in to the moment.
