Had the chance to view this movie yesterevening and was suprised by both the movie and the soundtrack. From what others tell me, there is a TV story line that Fox killed (typical) for this movie called "Firefly"? Not your typical space, sci-fi movie however very enjoyable, IMHO.

Firefly was a television series that is out on DVD if you want to watch it. I haven't seen it yet but I saw Serenity in theaters and enjoyed it.

Serenity is also now the answer to a trivia question as it is the first HD-DVD disc released in North America. smile

Yeah, what I like about it is that it doesn't have that same built by committee feel that you get with a lot of movies. Stays true to the director's vision.

Particularly like how they do the space scenes both in the show and in the movie. External shots of the ships, while in space, are silent except for music score...as it should be. Even better is how smart Joss Wedon is when doing this, as he cuts from external to internal shots of the same event, and only when in the internal shots do you hear sound effects. So even though in space you don't hear anything, he still gives you some of the sound effects of explosions and what not as he cuts to internal shots. Very cool.

If you liked the movie you will love the series. Only down side to it is the 4x3 image. Once you get by that little issue though there are like 15 really good episodes. Lots of back story to learn about the characters. Amazon has it for $24.96 was $49.98 it's worth the bucks.

I don't think this is 4:3 as I have been watching them downstairs on my 16x9 setup and nothing appears stretched. Pretty sure it is actually like 1.78:1. Great series though. Still trying to finish it so I can get to the movie. I think I only have 3 episodes to go.

The series is in 16:9 and is presented in anamorphic on the DVD's. It's a fun series that could have been very interested if allowed to run past the fourteen or so episodes produced. The approach to both science (no sound in space) and to the ship design (the entire ship set is a single unified piece, so moving through it feels realistic) are quite cool.

Except for the opening scene in Serenity, thank God... I use that scene to calibrate my Sunfire True Subwoofer. If the pictures on the wall start rattling, that's just about right...
