I use the 5.2 channel Audio Control Bijou and am very happy with it. However, I would suggest acoustic treatment first and use the EQ as a finishing touch to compliment the treatments. For various reasons it is not always amenable to acoustic treatments. I imagine that closing the drapes softens up the room some. EQ helps. And with a programmable EQ you can set up different programs for different kinds of material.
