Has the topic of allowing Outlaw owners to look at / modify/ write their own firmware ever come up? I'm a hardware and embedded developer and an open/shared source geek, and would love to 'look under the hood' of the firmware.

Also, what is the firmware written in? What processor does the 1070 use?

It hasn't come up, and while the idea is intriguing I suspect the logistics would be daunting - getting whatever partner they are using to manufacture such a unit to go along with sharing the source would be an uphill battle in such a competitive market. The processor used for DSP in the 1070 is the Cirrus 49400, and I don't have any idea what language the firmware is written in.

Looking at the firmware upadter app, it uses FlashMagic (or MagicFlash, I forget), which is used to flash Phillips processors. I'd have to guess that the system cpu is a phillips 8051, and is written in C, which I am fluent in.
