I know it's been brought up before, but does anyone have any idea when a replacement for the 1050 might be coming out??

My current receiver is on the blink, and I need to replace it relatively soon. Since I cannot afford to go with seperates right now, I will be purchasing a receiver. Currently the HK 525 is the top runner in my line up.

Normally I would try to hold out until I could afford what I REALLY want, but I'm moving soon for a new job, and won't be able to make any other upgrades for a while.

Any thoughts or ideas when the 1050 v2 will be out??

There's no word on one coming, so it will be some months at least before one appears. Maybe a year or so...

Too bad

I bet it'll be a great unit when it does come out.

With a street price (from an authorized dealer) at $699 for the H/K 525 I'm beginning to get the feeling that Outlaw will not be making an update to the 1050. That's some pretty stiff competition when you can hear one on the showroom floor whereas the Outlaw you have to just believe will sound better. Heck, at $699, the 950/7100 is looking is looking a little expensive in comparison.

That's some pretty stiff competition when you can hear one on the showroom floor whereas the Outlaw you have to just believe will sound better.

I came so close to backing out and purchasing something else 60 times over and giving up on the Outlaw 950/770 combo with the delays and the stir ups on the forums. Every weekend looking at certain other things ‘on the shelf’. To be perfectly honest the only reason I did not, and went ahead and took the shipment thinking 'well,...I can send it back'. was because of the sheer NICE of many people on this forum helping a new lost soul sort this business out. Since I had used resources on the Outlaw forum dime ...I felt I should go ahead and let the shipment roll giving them the courtesy of a demo.

IT has been my sole MOST satisfying purchase to date this last 12 months in AV. And believe me I purchased a lot, maybe not as compared to some 'every new model change over types’.... (Sometimes I went with last years model on a purchase for various reasons I factored) but I have truly been on a major binge.

I'm so glad the 'nice guy' in me decided to go ahead and give the Outlaw product a chance. It's been one of the best decisions I've made this year.

I don't expect this brand to mesh with everyone, But its been a glove fit for me.

The HK 525 (for me) would have had no-where near the power level I desire to get what I want to hear out of my speakers. And I am resistant to the ‘idea’ of using pre-outs in a receiver to beef the power. Unless I ‘already’ owned one, and it was the cheapest upgrade path availiable.

The market space occupied by the 1050 is an intensely competitive slot that is dominated by a lot of big players. Maybe an update is coming, but it may be wiser for Outlaw to look at providing an affordable separates alternative to the high end receivers. Maybe they can be more successful in a slightly higher bracket. Dunno.

With the 7100 and the 950 the entry cost of a amp/preamp HT system is going to be very attractive.

EDIT:

Maybe they could stake out a little higher ground in the receiver arena by integrating a 950 (or 950 lite) with either 7 of the model 200 or the 7100 guts.

It would seem to cut R&D at least.

Actually, the HK 525 is probably what I'll end up with. I know it is a compromise from my original goal of entry level separates, but I still think it's a nice piece.

If my circumstances hadn't changed, I would still be gearing towards the outlaw combo (or maybe AT) but I cannot afford it now.

I can get the HK 525 for $660. I think I will be hard pressed to find more than it offers for the same money.

It seems like you're pretty set on your purchase, but I would like to bring up one little thing. I bought a 1050 for its sound. It may not have all the features, but it sounds great (at least to me and any of my friends who have heard it) and it gets the job done for surround and movies. It's also built like a tank and it most circles, its specs are underated. It is a little bit behind in some technology, and a few more inputs would be nice. But for what it is, it still works beautifully.

Something had to bring you to this forum originally, be it the 1050 or another outlaw product. Have some fun and try it out in your listening enviroment. You can always send it back if it doesn't work for you. The other receiver isn't going anywhere...

Hi Jason,

Sound quality is the most important feature in this decision. And I do believe that I would be happy with the sound quality of the 1050.

And yes, I was drawn to this site for something, the 950. However, due to some big changes in my life, I will not be able to spend $2300+ to replace my old receiver. There are 2 main things that I think I would really like to have that the 1050 doesn't have: PL2 and analog bass management for the 5.1 inputs.

I'm not totally dead set on the HK. I just feel that for my current budget, it's a good choice. I guess I was hoping that someone here might have heard from a little birdie that a 1050 v2 (with some more features) may be coming sooner rather than later.

BTW....has anyone gotten any December newsletters from the Outlaws??

Well a 1050 + ICBM would give most of what you want. I never miss DPL2, but I mostly view DVD. If you do a lot of OTA/SAT viewing I could see the issue....

My setup runs about 75/25 HT to Music. And out of the HT about 60/40 Cable to DVD.

I've not played with DP2 very much, but from the little I've heard, I like it. On certain 2 channel recordings it's nice too.

Honestly, I bought my 1050 only a couple of months ago. I almost balked because I thought Outlaw might upgrade. I took the leap with the Outlaw and have been happy since.

Honest admission #2: The sound of the 1050 is, IMHO, excellent on movie soundtracks. The sound of the 1050 on music, IMHO, is good for its price range and about twice as much but a nice integrated amp would be better sounding. I'm waiting for more budget, ahh...money, to upgrade to an external amp.

Just curious, what kind of speakers are you going to be driving?

Oh yeah...I haven't heard about the december newsletter either.
