After alot of research and soulsearching (and alot of complaining from my wife about my indecision) I have decided on the 1050. Listened to the Marantz 6200, Denon 3802 and Sony ES. Liked the Marantz, but was weary on the various bad reviews due to technical problems. Decided that the Prologic II didn't matter to me...we watch mostly DVD's and I like to listen to my CD's in 2 channel mode. Prologic II seems to me an improvement for a dying technology. However, I have the following questions I hope someone can help me with:

What is a 96khz/24 - bit D/A converter...does the 1050 have it?should I care?

Can I still use my Sony RM-AV2100 remote with the outlaw? I like it alot.

Is it worth saving up my pennies for a 755 for christmas?

What are 5.1 channel direct inputs? Doesn't a audiodvd use optical/coaxial inputs?

Going to order my 1050 next week when I get paid. Can't wait!

The 1050 does have a 96/24 DAC. It's referring to the digital-to-audio converter(s) used. I'd offer some thoughts on the reasons behind wanting 96/24, but there are others around here better qualified to do so if you want to really get into it.

Yes you can -- I used one with my 1050 for about six months. You'll need to teach the AV2100 the 1050's buttons, as there is not a pre-defined code for the 1050. My wife and I have found that we prefer the 950's remote to the AV2100. The 1050's included remote is pretty good, too, but lacks the learning and macro abilities of the AV2100.

I've enjoyed the heck out of my 750! I'd suggest trying the 1050 out on its own first, but a separate amp can add to the movie and music experience and the Outlaw amps are good.

DVD video ("normal" DVD) uses optical or coaxial digital inputs for the audio typically. Some DVD players include an onboard Dolby Digital or DTS decoder, and those players offer a 5.1 analog output that can be connected to the 1050's 5.1 direct input. Seeing as most such players have decoders that are not as good as the 1050's, though, it's not really worth doing. The main reason that the 1050 has the 5.1 direct input is DVD-Audio and SACD. Both formats offer superior audio to the old CD, but because of piracy concerns the music industry has required that all DVD-Audio and SACD players do the digital-to-audio conversion internally (that way nobody can get their hands on the "raw" digital data and mass produce perfect copies of this very high resolution source). Because of this limitation, DVD-Audio and SACD players have 5.1 channel analog audio outputs, and you need the 5.1 direct input to hook them up.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!
