Can you do a test tone and set each speaker at a +-10. I can do this on my current receiver for all 5 speakers plus sub.

Thanks

I'm not entirely sure I know how to answer this question, but I'll do what I can. The 1050 does have test tones for each speaker (all six, plus the sub I think -- although since I never bought a sub when I upgraded speakers last year, I can't say for sure on the sub). You can use the test tones and an SPL meter to set speaker levels.

Yep, the 1050 does have test tones for all, including the sub. However, I found the sub test signal too low to be useful. It really pounded the $@!% out of things since, to make the test signal match, I had to crank it way up. You can imagine the results when you throw an LFE at a sub cranked too high.

Best bet is a test signal DVD and the trusty Radio Shack SPL meter. Otherwise, use the internal test signals for the six, and then calibrate the sub manually while in use.

I just recently got my 1050. I noticed on mine, the test tones are quite low in volume. When I calibrate with a SPL meter I need to set the volume quite high; around 60 plus to get 75db. Then when I put on a dvd or cd I practically got blown away with very high sound volume. To listen to most music at 80 plus db I set the volume to 45 - 50 on the dial. For most DVDs a volume setting of 50 on the dial is very loud. The test tone volumes definitely don't match with the actual music volumes on the SPL meter on my 1050. Its not a problem, just a curiosity if others experience the same.
So far I'm lovin the 1050. Great sound.

I set my speaker & subwoofer trim levels with Avia or the THX test tones on Star Wars I. I checked the test tones on the 1050 & found that the subwoofer level is indicated too low. In other words, Avia tells me to use a lower (more attenuated) sub trim level vs. the 1050 test tones.

Can anyone offer an explanation and/or advice on this?

Thanks and regards
BB

My 1050 is exactly the same. The only time I can listen to a music source past the 55-60 volume level is when the lady of the house steps out

Same for mine, test tones are much lower volume. I had it turned up fairly high when calibrating my sub.

My room is small. Seems like volume 60 was passing the 100 db mark frequently when I was playing around with it. That and all of my recessed lighting in both stairways rattles from the SVS, the cat runs and hides, etc

Hey thanks for the reply guys. I am very interested in the 1050 just not sure if I want to pass up Circle Surround and DPLII(I am looking at the Marantz 6200/7200 but there are alot of bad reveiws and some good ones. The only thing about the Marantz I don't like is setup is thru the TV.

The outlaw is right on the LCD display on the front correct?

Thanks again.
