I've been looking at a lot of DLP systems pretty closely, I like the color gamut and such, they look very film like. But I notice on many sets something that looks like chromatic abberations, such as a poorly made camera lens will produce. It's not obvious at normal distances with typical signals, but it can be seen very close, or during some title screens at a normal distance.

Anyone know anything WRT this?

This could be the rainbow effect some people refer too. Most of the DLP's use a color wheel that spins. I think there are some high end systems with 3 chips one for each color and do not have the rainbow issue. Not sure which ones. Probably look for one that says "3 chip DLP" or something like that.

I don't believe there currently are any 3 DLP panel systems available that sell for less than $15-20,000. And those are front projectors.

i dont know about price, but they are only in front projectors. i think they can be had for less than that...

why dont you look at lcos instead?

Look at the JVC HX1. I think it is around $9,000. I don't think that you could get a better projector for twice the money. It is a 3 chip lcos. The reviews are great on this machine.

It's not the rainbow effect; I know what that looks like. It really looks just like chromatic aberations, as from a poorply designed lens system. I ended up getting a Vizio RP56 (with a 30 day return policy) and so far it's quite nice. Not too huge, the pixels are still small, and the image quality is nice.

It has some CA, but it seems better than the Samsung sets in that regard. Interesting, CA isn't something that was ever a factor with 3 color systems since each lens set handled a single color.

i have not been impressed with dlp. i even think lcd projection is better for picture quality, not contrast, but it is sharper, clearer, with less distortion. i think lcos is best option at this moment for normal price points.
