Trying to get input(informed opinions) on DLP projectors is like pulling teeth.
Just wondering where all the high-end DLP users are?
Not to be 'elitist" , but does anyone have an opinion on the 3-chip projectors currently (or near) available? I have already read the articles, just looking for personal reviews. Specifically in the $5k-$8k range (BenQ8710,Optoma etc)

The BenQ8710 is not a 3-chip DLP projector. It uses one HD2+ chip. If there are any 3-chip DLP units out there in the $5k-$8k range I would sure like to know about them. Marantz released their "consumer" 3-chip model at $38,000!

Happy hunting!

My mistake apparently- I thought the HD+ WAS a 3 chip?
So I guess its a 2 chip?

Again- Mea Culpa-- I read this as projector info.

My understanding is that everything in the <$10,000 range is still one-chip with a color wheel. As you have already realized, the HD2+ is a single chip, as are the HD3 and the xHD3.

(This thread and future similar ones would probably be better suited to the Outlaw to Outlaw or My Systems Saloons than the "Suggest a Saloon" area, but don't sweat it -- no harm done. )

The Infocus's X1 replacement is just around the corner. I will be getting this when it becomes available.

It sounds very promising. My friend has the X1, and for the $$ he paid, it performs admirably.

Ummm.... Could you elaborate on that one, curegeorge? Is DLP as a technology going to be replaced (and if so, by what), is the HD2 Mustang chip going to be replaced (which it is, by the HD2+ and the HD3), or what?

I find all this talk of +$10000 front projectors so interesting. Kind of like talking Ferrari vs. Lamborgini. I'm watching my dvd's through a Sony Cineza vps 20 (which has recently been superceded by the 51) and am very satisfied. I know it's only an lcd projector yet, for me it's the software that's the limitation not the projector. It's true that I'm not yet watching hdtv sources (Voom, here I come...soon.) but for current dvd's I'm content. Maybe I need to get my glasses perscription checked?!?

I think what Curegeorg is talking about is LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) it is a 3 chip technology already used in JVC commercial projectors and currently in their new D-ILA line of High Definition TV's. I did see a side by side comparison between the Samsung 50" DLP with a sing chip and the JVC 52" D-ILA with its 3 primary color chips. The JVC was brighter with more depth and warmth at virtually the same price and the reviews have been positive. I would assume that their commercial projectors may be in your $8 - $10K range, but I am not sure.
