Model 7220 Vs Model 7900 - 09/27/19 08:10 AM

Greetings,

Does anyone have real world experience with the 7220, and willing to comment on their experience with it?

Also, does anyone have experience with both the 7900 vs the 7220? If so, would you consider commenting on the sound difference you experienced? Did you provide it with separate 15a outlets etc...?

Thank you,

blfolson

You may have hit a spot where no one has both amps in their system since either one is pretty powerful and both together would be a tad bit overkill. Very hard to compare them side by side.

The 7900 is made by ATI and they have been the OEM for amps offered by a number of companies including Outlaw. ATI has a solid reputation. Is the 7220 built by ATI? If so, I don't think you'd go wrong with either. The real questions are: What kind of speakers will be driven by the amp and how much headroom is desired. FYI, a Class D amp can achieve the same power without literally hurting your back and uses less energy than the typical Class A/B. ATI makes a couple of them.

Well, the 7220 back panel says "Assembled in the USA with..." just like the 7900 so either Outlaw has two suppliers in the US or it's ATI.

The back of ATI badged A/B amps read "Designed, Engineered and Manufactured in the United States of America by Amplifier Technologies Inc Los Angeles, California" versus "Assembled in the USA..." but maybe the 7220 is an ATI made from non-American parts. I find it interesting that ATI has added a couple of Class D amp lines to their offerings but they use heavily modified modules from outside the US.

The amps built for Outlaw by ATI have stickers on the inside power supplies stating they are ATI transformers, hers is a picture of a 7500 courtesy of Gonk from way back...http://prillaman.net/image/outlaw7500-svet1.jpg
