Model 976 and Model 770 Amp - 02/19/20 06:46 PM

I have been running a Marantz SR5005 as a pre-amp with a 15 year old model 770 with a 7.2 system and everything is going strong. I do bypass the Marantz for my Sony Projector by running the hdmi cable directly from the bluray player to the projector. My player has a second hdmi output for audio that goes to the Marantz.

As I have no plans to go beyond 7.2 what is gained by replacing the Marantz with a 976 pre-amp and is it a good pairing with the Model 770 amp?

Although your amp is an older model it will easily match up with the 976 or any other processor you choose. The 976 offers a more up to date suite of electrical nirvana in the way of HDMI and HDCP and supprt for 4k video.

Thanks for responding. I may have a 4k projector in the future though I may continue to have a setup where the 4k player will be directly connected to the projector because of a long run hdmi cable (35 feet). When I originally ran it through the pre-amp I had hand shake problems and I remember my conversations with Outlaw when I purchased the Marants SR5005 that replaced my Outlaw preamp 950 about issues with long hdmi runs.

The new fiberoptic HDMI cable should resolve many of the distance limitations.

I second that! I use the Monoprice ones at my job, the 150 ft one, and no issue!
