Bluetooth Adapter

Bluetooth Adapter - 02/07/20 05:58 PM

Just got the Bluetooth adapter. Works nicely! I do have a question though. After doing some research on the Qualcomm APT manufacturer I noticed different frequency responses for different adapters, and bit rates. I thought that the adapter just sent bits into the receiver and all that was handled in the D/A chips there. Obviously I am wrong. Love an explanation on how that actually works. FLAC vs MP3(various bit rates) kind of stuff??? Is the adapter degrading my high quality FLACs?

Bluetooth audio is a deep topic with loads of implementation specific caveats. In short, your FLACs are certainly being re-encoded to a different codec, but the good news is you are only going through one lossy conversion with FLAC.

This article covers it pretty well:

Depending on the source you are streaming from you may have to go to great lengths to get the best results. For example, iPhones don't support aptX at all, but if you are streaming Apple Music it can go AAC all the way through.

OK...I'll check that out...I am able to stream from my iPhone 8 though...as well as my old iPad4 (4 I think)

OK...read the article-thanks!
To get the highest fidelity I'll have to use my HP Omen X 2S and come in over the ARC channel...since it wont handshake with the 976...all my media is on a QNAP DLNA server

If you aren't satisfied with the results of feeding audio over HDMI from a computer you can look into devices like the DigiOne Signature (which is a raspberry pi hat for feeding spdif) and software like Roon.

Sounds great over HDMI thru my pc...just have to use ARC to get it to the 976.
