Is the 976 still a good buy? - 01/21/20 04:10 PM

Good afternoon saloon. I've been running my 7700/990 combo 12 years with relatively no heavy issues and years of enjoyable video/audio content. I know the 7700 has been decomm'd but mine is still going strong so I think I'll keep the beast. However, with all the new formatting and technology upgrades, its time to say goodbye to my ole-trusty 990. That said, with the 976 being over 2 years old now, is this a good choice to purchase now or is there something new on the horizon for Outlaw processors?

We have been waiting years, like 5 or 6, for Outlaw to release their Atmos processor but nothing yet.
I was going to buy the Emotiva XMC-2 but I decided against it.
I guess I still want an Outlaw processor but I really don't think I will ever upgrade our theater room to anything more that 7.2.

If you are happy with the 990 and just want to upgrade your audio codec capability the 976 is a pretty good deal. If your taste is moving towards both an audio and a video upgrade including Atmos and DTS X you should look elsewhere. Almost no one really thinks Outlaw is ever going to produce the still not named processor which has been delayed and since pretty much forgotten. If your are looking to upgrade the whole shootin match look for a processor a few years older with Atmos/DTS X new in box.
