Video/Inputs and Outputs Question

Video/Inputs and Outputs Question - 02/07/18 04:46 PM

At present I have a 7.2 audio system with the Outlaw 770 amp and a Marantz 50005 used as a pre amp. For Video I have both an overhead projector and a 50" plasma. My blue ray player has two hdmi outputs - one to the Marantz for audio and one direct to the overhead. Because of a long hdmi cable (30 feet) I found this works better than going through the Marantz video (hdmi in/hdmi out) because the added distance caused hand shake problems.

I also had a TIVO (cable TV) that originally had an hdmi out that went to the plasma TV and component out that went to the overhead projector. I could then watch normal TV on the plasma but an HD movie coming through the TIVO on the overhead. When I upgraded the TIVO to the Bolt there were no components out and so I can only play TIVO (cable TV) signals to the plasma. To play TV on the projector I have to physically switch cables.

Now my question: As the 976 has multiple HDMI inputs and 2 hdmi outputs, is it possible to run one output to my plasma TV and the other to my front projector (I did upgrade to a 30 foot redmere hdmi cable that boosts the signal). In effect I can now ply either my IVO or blueray plaer on my front projector and the same for my plasma TV?

The short answer is yes you can supply video to both displays. See page 20 of the manual for more info as there may be some limitations if you are using 4K video displays.

Thanks for the response. I looked at page 20 of the manual as you suggested. It did state that use of the displays would result in limitation to 1080 as you stated. My projector is 1080 and I don't expect to upgrade to 4K any time soon. The plasma is 10 years old and 720 I believe. I don't run both at the same time anyway.

It appears that the 976 does solve my problem of being able to use my overhead projector for blurays or TIVO output but I still have some caveats as follows:

Will switching my long run HDMI cable that goes directly to my projector back to running the signal through the 976 lead to handshake problems (as I originally had) and

Is the 976 that much of an improvement over my Marantz 50005 to justify the $899 expense?

I should mention that I don't find a lot of reviews on the 976.

Unless you plan on going to 4K video I would not think the extra cost is justified.
