sub woofers and r2160 - 11/03/19 01:01 PM

I am using my r2160 as a preamp to a 300 watt per channel amp.
My speakers are a pair of Magnepan .6
At lower volume, I feel the need to add a subwoofer.
Should I add 1 or 2 subs to my system?

Thanks for a suggestions.

I have the Magnepan 1.6 speakers. Haven't seen the .6 but I have a subwoofer installed in my system to supplement the maggies. I have them powered with a Outlaw 7500 which is also 300 watts. I usually listen to music and feel that the bass is more than sufficient for that use without the sub but...the sub allows the maggies to use more power from the amp in their best range to give me more headroom. I would start with one sub or maybe 2 smaller subs depending on your room size. That should be more than enough especially at lower volumes. I cross my sub over at 80 hz which works well for my room which is very small.

Thanks for your input XenonMan. I was leaning toward 2 smaller subs.

I second the two smaller subs notion. I have two M8s providing the low end for my BLSv2s. My system sounds MUCH bigger than it is.

Curious, should I use only matched subs, or anything I come across?
Currently running RR2160 with 2 pair Klipsch Heresy (couldn't bring myself to sell a pair, they sound incredible together!!) and a LFM1 Compact. I have an adequate amount of bass, but it is more directional than I would like, distracting from the front staging. (crossing at 60hz)
