Dual Cue R1 Clock Radio

Dual Cue R1 Clock Radio - 12/11/09 06:03 PM

I remember, many years ago, Nakamichi made a clock radio that integrated two clock radios together to create a stereo. They discontinued this product long ago, but seeing the Cue R1 made me think of it again.

Instead of offering the R1 on it's own, OR simply with an additional speaker, what if you were to create, essentially, two R1's that could be connected so that both me and my wife could have a full clock radio/iPhone dock on each of our nightstands, but the speakers would be connected to provide stereo sound.

There are several manufacturers making what you are currently offering (a clock radio with the option to add another speaker) but no one is offering two actual clocks/alarms that work together to create a stereo.

What would it take to modify an R1 to simply make it a "slave" to the first one, but adding a clock/alarm and iPhone dock? It might be called the R1S (for slave) or R1C (for companion).

Does this all make sense? I'd love to see a product like this.

A good set of computer speakers with a sub running off your iPod and its alarm function would seem to be a lot cheaper alternative.

I use one just like that in my bedroom right now. I connected it with a DYNEX iPod dock I bought for $10 on Ebay. I use the same setup for my iPod into my 990 and my Harmony remote controls my iPod. I used a set of Altec Lansing computer speakers I had laying around and it sounds OK for as cheap as it is. The Dynex dock includes a remote and all the cables to connect to an analog input on the 990. It plays music and charges the iPod at the same time. Even if you went and bought all new stuff you could easily set one up for less than $100.

i like it. when i was in college i had pioneer setup that when the power blinked it would turn itself on and play whatever cd was in the deck. so got one of those garden lighting timers and used it like an alarm clock, every morning it would come on with Atom Heart Mother full blast and i stopped over sleeping. my roomies didnt seem to like it though...
