Music Server and DVD Player - 04/22/06 01:25 PM

I know DVD will be replaced in the next 3 years, but what about a kickass DVD player with amazing redbook playback with a REAL nice video chip not just the Faroudja chip... like a Realta HQV.

No SACD, no DVD-A.

Just the best DVD player money can buy at a price around $500 to $1,200.

A nice high end music server would kick ass as well. Have it come with a nice 250 Gig HD minimum, and give it the ability to add HD space thru a USB connector so people can buy USB HDs and just add more content.

A real High End server though, that has high end DACs for every output. Make it a 3 zone server with the ability to send out 3 signals at once.

Music server is an interesting idea, but I can't see Outlaw's target market being able to support a $500 DVD player (especially one without DVD-A or SACD) when players like the Oppo can be had for $200 and the new HD formats are arriving in the $500 to $1000 range - seems like a recipe for dreadful sales.

I would like to see a music server, preferably one that also plays SACD's. They could probably do something with a 200GB hard drive and SACD capabilities for about $400-500.

I would snap one up in a second. Load my CD's onto the hard drive, and have something to play my 100 or so SACDs on.

I'd go for a good music server, too. If you could combine a Sonos-type controller with a 200GB hard-drive for lossless copying, with expanion capacity and the ability to easily reocrd from analog (I have lots of records, still), that would be great. Sonos, Escient, Olive, etc. each have good elements that someone should combine in a reliable, reasonably priced package.
