Changes to the 950 that would be nice

I would like to see the DC trigger work differently. Have the trigger be adjustable instead of fixed to the whole unit. For example you would be able to select what started the trigger like the DVD or VCR input.

Good idea for a thread!

- distance setting for the sub
- crossover setting for the rears
- distance setting for the rears
- a genuine 7.1 DSP mode a la THX Ultra2 or Logic 7 or something by Outlaw or Cirrus (CES plus...)
- a better tuner, or remove it altogether
- 24/96 ADCs
- a dedicated remote, not a jack-of-all-trades universal remote
- a sub polarity toggle in the config, or, with the new Anthem software for example, you can set the phase by 5 deg increments
- different sub phase settings allowable for digital/2 channel inputs vs the 5.1 analog input

There's more, but that's a good start...

BTW, I'm thinking of these for the high end Outlaw pre/pro, not the 950 II.

The only thing I really hate about the 950 is not being able to turn the on-screen display off. It's extremely annoying when you don't want it.

Being able to adjust and save the audio outputs levels per device.

I'm pretty sure the OSD can be turned off. Doesn't setting the display time to 0sec accomplish this?

The 0 sec delay time was added on the red dot 950's; earlier units had a 3 sec delay time in place of the 0 sec.

Oh, you have to be kidding! I didn't think there was any improvement in the red dot units outside of the problem fix. I remember talking to Outlaw about the on screen display when I got it, and having them confirm you couldn't turn it off, and them suggesting I connect higher res picture sources directly to my tv (which I can't - I only have 1 S-video on my tv).
Outlaw, any chance I could trade my Outlaw 950 for a red dot unit? Or I'd even pay for an upgrade to the 0 sec OSD - I love everything else about the 950, the OSD is the only thing that irritates me every time it comes on (which is a lot)!

When I posted it, it was live. The thread must have been removed when the Outlaws did their archive sweep a few weeks ago.

I find the interface to bypass to be annoying (but love most everything else). Why is there a bypass button on the front panel, but it's only for stereo bypass? At least make it so pushing it twice changes it to 6-channel bypass, or some such.

I agree that interface is becoming more and more critical for a home theater pre/pro or receiver. For what it's worth on the example you note, I think the reasoning there is this: the two are separate because the 6-channel analog is a unique input similar to DVD or CD or VIDEO1 (and thus accessible just like those are, from the "SOURCE" up/down buttons) while the stereo bypass mode is a special "processing mode" (so to speak) applied to an input.

Priority settings for inputs in to each source. Example would be a digital cable box connected to Video 3 with analog and coaxial connections. You could tell that source to only look at it's analog input and coaxial 1 and set the priority to the digital signal and revert to the analog if no digital signal is present. Also it would allow you to not worry about scrolling through the other 5 possible inputs to get to the one that you need. Silly that each source lists all possible digital inputs. How many optical outputs does a DVD player have? Never saw one with 4.
My previous Yamaha would allow you to do this so I can't believe it's to hard. I feel the 950 is a much better piece of equipment from a hardware standpoint but they need to get a better logic programmer for the interface and control.
I hope Outlaw keeps track of this thread because they all seem to be good suggestions.
